Happy New Year everybody !
2015 is looking like it will be our busiest year yet. Issue 3 will be out soon and issue 4 is well underway.
If you are in the Portland area this week (Jan 23-25) be sure to stop by Portland Comic Con Table D-56 and say hi to Delia. She’ll be selling and signing issues of Dash, her non Dash work and some Dash pin ups, including this one!
We’ll have lots more coming up soon!
Hey everyone, thank you so much for your kind words on issue 2! We know it came out a little more sporadically than issue 1, but we’re hoping the twists it added to the story were worth the wait.
We want to thank Greg McElhatton at CBR for giving issue 2 such a good review Also Brad Gischia of Bagged and Bored did a review of both issues 1 & 2. Also much thanks to Andrea Speed at Cxpulp for giving us another positive review!
Some have let us know they are having a hard time getting their LCS to order Dash. First thank you for letting us know about the problem, we’re a bit frustrated by it as well. Please remember even though we are distributed by Diamond you can also get issue 1 & 2 directly from our publisher Northwest Press, both physically and digitally. Also issue 2 will be on Comixology this Wednesday (12/31/14), so keep your eye out!
Speaking of Comixology, they’re having a great sale featuring a lot of great Northwest Press titles, including Dash issue 1, so keep a look out for that as well.
We want to thank everyone for supporting Dash this year, from reading our comic, to reading our very sporadic blog (it’s honestly one of our New Years resolutions!) From coming out to the launch party, to retweeting, sharing, and spreading the word, thank you. We promise we have much more coming your way this year!
As a thank you here is a B&W preview page from issue 3…….
Great guns! I can’t believe it’s been so long since we’ve updated! So much has happened since Dash 1 has come out. I always say I’m going to try and keep this blog way more up to date than I have been, it’s an early New Years resolution.
In future posts l’ll update about our fantastic launch party we had in October, the con appearances Delia and I both made, more sneak peaks, and more exclusives.
But the biggest news at hand is Dash issue 2 is out.
We had some unfortunate delays that were both out of our hands and our publishers. Thank you for sticking with the comic and waiting patiently …. or impatiently in one case! We’re hoping you like issue 2 even better than issue 1 as it ratchets up the action and dives deeper into Dash’s history. By the last page I think you’ll get a little clearer picture of where The Case of the Mysterious Zita Makara is going.
We want to thank David Charles Bitterbaum over at The Newest Rant for giving issue 2 a nice 4.5 out of 5 review which you can read here. And make sure you check out his blog often!
We have a new section on the blog called The Comic, be sure to check it out to get exclusive preview pages of the released issues, and the covers that have been released thus far. Also there you can find links where you can order Dash online, either Gumroad, Comixology, or direct from our publisher Northwest Press. Speaking of Northwest Press they are having a fantastic holiday sale. 40% off when you spend $20! That’s a great deal.
You can also get Dash in select comic shops all across the country. If your comic shop isn’t carrying Dash please ask them to order it. If you are looking for back issues of Dash you can also ask your LCS to do reorder or they can order direct from Northwest Press. The latest issue up for order is Issue 5 (see the synopsis in the The Comic section.) The Diamond order code number for issue 5 is DEC14 1585. Speaking of issue 5 here is an exclusive first look at the cover for it!
Lastly we want to thank all the readers and retailers that have taken a chance on our comic. We promise we have lots more in store for you, our goal is to always put the best we can into every issue. If you’ve been reading please let us know what you think by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’d like feel free to ask questions and (with your permission) we’ll print some of the emails here and answer them.
I got some writing to get done tonight, so I’ll wrap this up, and like I said I’ll try to keep this updated more often than not.
DASH issue 1 is officially out! We’re so excited to finally share the entire issue with you!
Here is how you can get it:
Direct from our awesome publisher Northwest Press, you can order a hard copy or digital. (They are having a 25% off everything sale that goes on until September 30th, so go shopping here and then type in coupon code: “pumpkin_spice” when you check out to get the deal!)
On Comixology right here.
In select comic shops all over. If your shop is carrying Dash please let us know, we would love to help them out however we can. If your shop is not carrying Dash well tell them you want them to be carrying it, we’re in the Diamond Previews catalogue every month!
We also want to thank Dustin Cabeal of Comic Bastards for the 5 out 5 review he gave issue 1. You can read the review here.
We’d also like to thank Jen ‘Miss J’ Aprahamian of Comic Vine for the positive and constructive review she gave issue 1. You can read that here.
Don’t forget we’re throwing a launch party in Philadelphia for Dash on October 4th, you can get tickets for that here.
Finally the multi-talented Rich Lee put together another video of Delia and myself talking about issue 1. If all goes well we’ll be doing one for every issue.
Now that issue 1 is out we can talk a bit more about our process for the first issue as well as show you some preview art of issue 2, and maybe, just maybe, tear Delia away from working on the next issue to post. No promises. So stay tuned, The Case of The Mysterious Zita Makara has just started!
In a week from today Dash issue 1 will be out and available in shops and online! It almost seems unreal that Delia and I have been working on this comic for two years now and it’s finally happening. So lets party!
We’ve mentioned that we’re having a launch party for the series before, but here is all the nitty gritty info.

Summer has pretty much come and gone and like most summers, for me at least, it has gone by way too quickly. Somehow though there’s a small, a very very very small part of me that’s relieved it is over. Any one else feel the same way? Delia is knee deep into making issue 2 awesome. It’s kind of surreal to think that the script for it is two years old; Delia’s thumbnails for it are almost as old. Issue 1 has been done for a while now and as much as we love the work we’ve done on it, it feels like we’ve been picking and chipping at it forever. Now that we’re really getting into issue 2 it feels like this train is moving! (Sorry to disappoint, there are no trains here, only comics.)
Speaking of issue 1 it hits the stands on September 24th, so if you asked your local comic store for it, that is the day to go pick it up (and while you’re at it browse around and pick up some other great books too.) However if you are the type who doesn’t like leaving the house because it means putting on pants, and if you are you are my people, we have some good news to report: Dash will be on Comixology! It looks like it it will be available day and date of the print release, so if your preferred reading method is digital you can get us there as well.
As a digital freebie if you want an 8 page preview of Issue 1, our awesome publisher Norwest Press has it up on their website, check that out here!
In the “it’s nice when people say nice things department” we’ve gotten another very nice advance review of issue 1 from Andrea Speed that was featured on the cxPulp website. You can read the review here and check out more from Andrea at her website here.
Other than working on issue 2, I’m currently adapting issue 1 into a live radio play that will be performed at our Dash Comic Launch Party in Philadelphia on October 4th in the Red Room at The Society Hill Playhouse. If you are in the Philadelphia area the first weekend of October please stop on by. A huge blog post about the party, the radio play, and how to get a signed copy of Dash 1 for free coming next!
And with all this talk of Issue 1 and Issue 2, the cover for Issue 3 is out and about now, and I love what Delia has captured with it. Below is the penciled version, to check out the full color version of it on Previews World here
Lastly we’d love to hear your thoughts on Dash, feel free to email us at email@example.com
Lots more coming up, stay tuned!
Why is it when you have to be up early you can’t ever get to sleep? Actually with me I can always get to sleep but I wake up about an hour later and just toss and turn, fooling myself that I can make it back to sleep, while checking my phone every few minutes as if something’s going to change. Tonight I figured instead doing that I’d be more productive and write this long overdue blog. As always there’s a lot to catch up on.
A few weeks ago Delia came down to Philly and we spent a very productive weekend together. We had a fantastic photo shoot, and spent most of Saturday afternoon filming the first few bits for our upcoming short videos we’ll be releasing on our Youtube page with each issue. Make sure you subscribe to our channel not to miss them. In the next few weeks we’ll be putting a playlist up of videos and clips from stuff that has inspired us as we’ve been making the comic.
We had our first review for issue 1 come out on Comics Worth Reading written by Johanna Draper Carlson, which you can read here. It’s always nice when people say nice things, but it’s even nicer when nice people say nice things. Be sure to give her a follow on the Twitter machine @johannadc
Josh Middleton of G Philly, a section of phillymag.com, gave us a nice write up on Dash, which you can read here, and officially announced the launch party we’ve been planning for the comic in Philly at The Red Room in The Society Hill Playhouse. We’ll be posting a lot more info about it but for now if you are close to Philly keep the evening of Saturday October 4th open! Also give Josh @justjoshfunk1 AND G Philly @G_Philly a follow on the Twitter machine
Issue 2 has been in Previews for a bit. I love this cover so much Delia gifted me the pencils to it. Here is the final version of it.
The issue it self picks up pretty quickly from the major event that happens at the end of issue 1. It gives a small idea of who Dash is, who he was, and the direction we’re headed with this arc and for future arcs as well. We’ll talk more about it when it gets closer, but for now I hope you enjoy the cover for it as much as I do. Feel free to tell your LCS you want it and to make life easier on them you can tell them the Previews code is AUG1567.
And finally we wanted to report that the preorders on issue 1 have exceeded expectations! We can’t tell you how much that means and how it inspires us to try and make the best comic we can. We really want to thank everyone who told their LCS they wanted Dash. If you read issue 1 and you want to give us your thoughts on it please feel free to contact us here, on the Twitter machine, or send us an old fashioned email. We’d also like to thank the shops who took a chance on an unknown team with a new comic. If you are a retailer who is carrying Dash in your shops please let us know if there is anyway we can help you out by giving you a mention on this blog, signing books, or anything. Our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org, send us a message, we’d love to here from you!
Well my alarm is going off, looks like I need to get up, thank you for reading, way more to come soon!
It’s official! Dash Issue #1 will be hitting stands September 24!
We are excited to finally be able to announce that Dash will be released this September as an ongoing series from Northwest Press! After two years of working to make the best comic we can, it’s a thrill to finally be able to get this into shops.
First, we’d love to get Dash into as many shops as possible. It can always be risky for comic shop owners to take a chance on a brand new series but if you tell your local shop you want it, they’ll order it for you.
Dash Issue #1 is in the Diamond Previews July Magazine. You can tell them the Diamond Preview Item Code is JUL141331 or you can just direct them to the link on their website HERE
Remember, we’re a monthly, so if you pick it up tell them to put it on your pull list. And hey, if you don’t have a pull list at your LCS, maybe you should consider getting one. I’m sure your local shop would be happy to set one up for you.
Second, we can’t thank Bleeding Cool enough for their feature on Dash. It was very unexpected and we are very grateful they decided to feature our book. They have some early pictures of stuff we don’t even have on this blog, so check it out HERE
Finally, we’re so pleased that we are being published by Northwest Press. It’s very hard for a company to put an ongoing monthly title featuring a gay male protagonist, particularly in the noir genre, out there. The confidence they have in Dash as an ongoing series is inspiring! Check out the website for Northwest Press HERE
We have much more stuff ahead this summer as we lead up to issue #1’s release. Until then…
We’re still sitting on some big news, and while the details are being firmed up I figured I’d make a long overdue post about Here’s Looking At You. It’s a short story we contributed to the You Are Not Alone anti-bullying anthology from GrayHaven Comics. Growing up, I had always wished there was something like YANA available and I was excited to be a part of it. Planning it out with Delia over several conversations we both surprised ourselves with memories we had long ago thought we had forgotten. I never considered myself someone who was bullied but when I look back…well it’s funny the stuff you choose not to remember until you do.
One of the features of Delia’s art I love the most is no two characters look-alike. Everyone is distinct and you can see each person, even if in the background, has their own story. From the way the main characters Tucker and Duncan move, to Tuckers parents, to their classmates, you can see there are more than just two personalities on the page. Below is the first page of the 4 page story and I think you can see what I’m talking about here. It may be one of my favorite pages she’s done.
You can find the rest of the story in You Are Not Alone from GrayHaven Comics here. YANA seems to be doing well, it’s received a lot of great press, nabbed the Philadelphia Geek award in 2013, and some very positive reviews. Thanks to Fred over at Freds’ HM Fan Blog for saying “Here’s Looking at You by Ebersole/Gable was nice to see and read, with a more nuanced look at its topic than many others.”
I was really proud to be part a part of the anthology and we wish GrayHaven the best of luck with their follow up volume ( hopefully the first of many to come.) You can get updates on the progress of the next YANA by following them at @yanacomic.
As for Tucker and Duncan I thought I would be leaving their story where it is; short, sweet, and to the point. Then I got an idea. Then Delia got an idea. And well, you’ll see one day. But for now enjoy.
Ok, it’s been a very long time since either of us has updated. Like since right before last Halloween long time, and all I can really say is…. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope 2014 has been treating everyone great; it’s been rather a busy time for us.
Delia just got back from Emerald City Con (so jealous) and is gearing up for MoCCA Fest where she’ll be sharing a table with illustrator Elisabeth Alba.Table F3. They’ll both be selling some great stuff so be sure to drop by, table F3.
Our first issue has been completed and I love it. We are currently in the middle of the pitch process and it’s very exciting. I couldn’t be more proud of the work we’ve done on this comic; I can’t wait to get it in people’s hands. I wish there was a way for you to see it, even if only a small preview of it. Oh wait, there is!
If you drop by and see Delia at MoCCA, table F3, you can pick up a special 9 page preview of our comic Dash: The Mysterious Case of Zita Makara. But it’s not just 9 pages of comic; it also has an amazing amount of sketches, characters designs from Delia, an intro from me, and more! Here is a glance at the cover:
We only have a limited number of these preview books so be sure to pick it up! MoCCA Fest is this weekend (April 5th & 6th ) Saturday and Sunday in Manhattan at: The 69th Regiment Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue, between E. 25th & E. 26th Street, New York, NY 10010. Be sure to head over to table F3 to grab this exclusive preview book. Also Sunday I’m going to be a jerk and will be hanging around the table as well, so stop by and say hi.
We’ll be updating the blog a lot more frequently, most likely every Friday, with news, previews, and some exclusive stuff. Thanks for reading, and see you next week (or see you at MoCCA Fest, if I forgot to mention table F3.)
